Alexandria’s revamped WR corps is off and running in 2026 season

by Marshall Loeffler

ALEXANDRIA – Last season, Alex Fontenot had over 1,000 receiving yards for the ASH Trojans. The next highest receiving total belonged to Ja’Kyrin Griffin, and behind him was running back Kason Williams. Meanwhile, KJ Ray was mostly watching from the sidelines whie dealing with injuries, and Reggie Monroe was down in Hammond leading their pass attack with just over 500 receiving yards.

This fall, all three are healthy, synchronized, and wearing the same shade of purple, and the results on the field appear to be just as strong as the bond that has been created off of it. Reggie has found his way to fit in and belong, KJ has worked and waited to be ready for this year, and Alex continues to be a force on the outside.

For Monroe, there wasn’t really a ton of time to get familiar with his new team and QB, he just knew that he was coming into an established situation. “Throughout the first few days, I saw how instense it was, and how guys got stuff done, so I’ve had to work to get better every day since that first day, I saw how important execution was with these guys and these coaches,” said Monroe. “We only had one week of Spring practice, and to see that everybody had skills, everybody could go out and get the ball, and everybody supported each other. Once I adjusted from a huddle offense to a tempo offense, I knew we were all going to work together and get everybody involved.”

KJ Ray, however, has had time. More than he wanted, in fact, as he was limited to one game last season. “I worked with Karsen [Sellers] even through the injuries, just catching for him, whatever I could do. Getting back to running routes again and doing what I love on the field has felt amazing,” Ray told me. “We have been lifting each other up because we know how good we can be.”

The arrival of “Donut” and the return of KJ has clearly impacted the box score, and the attention that those and other offense options for ASH have drawn has allowed All-State receiver Alex Fontenot to score in two of three games and continue his knack for finding a way to get open on vertical routes. “It’s been great having Reggie and KJ in the rotation, they both bring a lot to the offense and give us more weapons,” Fontenot said after practice this week. “Having more guys in games that defenses have to respect takes some pressure off and gives us more opportunities to make plays. I think we’ve started to really come together as a group.”

Of course, there’s nothing wrong at all with having K5 and Kason as your second and third receiving targets. But with this fully loaded WR corps in sync with their QB and all focused on the major team goals of this season, it is yet another position group that ASH has built into one of the fastest and most productive in the state so far in the 2026 season. Monroe agrees: “It’s going to be fun to see what we can do.”
