December 26, 2024

The Louisiana high school basketball season is heating up, and the latest Top 25 rankings from Mike Coppage at SI.com are giving us plenty to talk about. If you’re a fan of girls’ hoops, this is your time to shine because the talent across the state is nothing short of electric. Let’s dive into what’s making headlines this week.

Wossman Holds Strong at No. 1
Wossman High School isn’t just playing basketball—they’re making statements. At 10-1, they’ve locked down the No. 1 spot in Division II non-select, and for good reason. Their latest 58-36 win over Oak Grove showed us why Ramiah Augurson, a Southern Miss signee, is one of the best in the game. Add Anyra Wilson and Ashanti Smith to the mix, and this team is looking unstoppable.

John Curtis Christian Continues to Shine
Over in Division I select, John Curtis is sitting pretty at No. 2 with a 10-1 record. What’s most impressive? Their depth. Bailey Timmons, Janiah Williams, and Imani Daniel are all averaging over 12 points per game. And let’s not forget their defense—Timmons and Jayla Albert are like magnets for the ball, snagging over three steals per game each. This squad is built for big moments.

Walker Is a Perfect 15-0
Walker High School is turning heads with their flawless 15-0 record, climbing to No. 3 in Division I non-select. They’ve taken down heavyweights like Lafayette Christian and Lafayette High, but the real star of the show is Arionna Patterson. Her 31-point game against Lafayette Christian? Unreal. This team is proving they’re the real deal.

Other Teams to Watch
Parkway High, ranked No. 4 in Division I non-select, is staying steady at 12-2. They’ve been quiet recently but have a big game against Neville High coming up. Meanwhile, Huntington High (No. 5 in Division I select) is gearing up for some epic January matchups against Walker and Wossman. Mark your calendars because those games are going to be must-watch.

Southern Lab Keeps Dominating
If you’re following Division IV select, Southern Lab is where it’s at. With a 12-3 record and wins like their 50-16 blowout over Liberty Magnet, they’re making it clear they’re not here to mess around.

Fairview and University Lab Make Moves
Fairview High School, ranked No. 8, is a Class B powerhouse with a 20-2 record. They’re hitting up every tournament they can, including the Barbe Tournament, where they’ll face Lafayette High. Meanwhile, University Lab is making waves, jumping into the No. 9 spot and staying undefeated at 8-0. Keep an eye on them—they’re just getting started.
