446Sports is on the move.
The site, which began exclusively on the radio, has branched out into all areas of the media and expanded from its base in Alexandria into the Lafayette area.
The brainchild of Doug Gann, 446Sports covers high school (and college) sports from every angle, giving fans 100% free content in the form of articles, live game streaming, coaches’ shows and more.
“For a long time, radio was all that was around,” Gann said. “Five-to-seven years ago, we got back in the studio, and as technology got easier, I said, ‘Let’s do this full time.'”
Gann and his team work around the clock all year, including the summer, when 446Sports broadcasts numerous baseball and softball tournaments, highlighting not only youth from Louisiana but around the country.
“If one extra kid gets recognition, it’s worth it,” Gann said.
446Sports is the media hub of Teurlings Catholic football, broadcasting the Rebels’ games and hosting The Coach Michael Courville Show at Pizza Village every Monday. They will also cover different sports throughout the school year for Teurlings.
“Teurlings Catholic has such a passionate fan base,” Gann said. “And it’s not just football. We want to showcase the overall Teurlings Catholic experience and tell the story of the Rebels all season.”
“The No. 1 thing is to keep tradition alive for the tight knit Teurlings family,” Gann said
Gann has become a frequent traveler on Interstate 49, making the trip south twice each week on Mondays and Tuesdays. Firehouse Subs on Kaliste Saloom Road is the home of The Pelican Sports Report Acadiana, a weekly live show that brings in a different local football program on Tuesdays.
Teurlings, Lafayette Renaissance and Acadiana High have been guests, and the Southside Sharks will be up next. Lafayette High, Lafayette Christian, Carencro, Cecilia, Catholic New Iberia, Westminster Christian (Laf.) and Breaux Bridge are scheduled to participate. The Carencro and Cecilia shows will be at the Carencro based Firehouse Subs, while their visit with Catholic-NI will be at the New Iberia restaurant.
The fun won’t stop when the regular season ends, as 446Sports will host a playoff edition on November 11.
“It’s basically a weekly pep rally,” Gann said. “One goal we have is to serve the area’s needs. We met a lot of people who want a different experience.”
All of 446Sports’ game streams are available for free on its Roku channel (just search their app store for 446Sports) as well as normal Social Media outlets, giving student-athletes and parents a place to relive cherished memories. Here is a link to the web-based page: Roku Page
“It’s a passion,” Gann said of his mission. “It’s 100% worth the time and effort.”
The central Louisiana native has found a second home in the Hub City.
“The folks I’ve met down there are phenomenal,” Gann said. “Lafayette is a special place on Monday and Tuesday nights.”
Gann often gets the question of what the meaning is behind the name “446Sports”. “It’s a moment we look for and the answer starts the same each time” he adds, “I’m glad you asked!” 446 comes from Ephesians in the Bible, Chapter 4 verses 4-6. “It always gives us an opportunity to tell folks what is really important to us and the reason we do what we do. We stay obedient to God’s plan and the rest will take care of itself.”
He believes that the sky is the limit for what 446Sports brings to the Lafayette region. “We are going to enjoy this season and ready ourselves to see what the market demands. We are ready to deliver.”
